Douglas man arrested for 102 counts of domestic violence, including phone harassment

The day he ended his relationship with his girlfriend, the harassment began. In the end Steven Anthony Rascon, 26, was arrested for 102 counts of misdemeanors and felonies related to domestic violence and harassment.

The investigation began in September 2007 shortly after the relationship ended between him and his girlfriend. Soon after, Rascon began to make harassing phone calls to his ex-girlfriend and her family, said Marcus Gonzalez, the spokesman for the Douglas Police Department.

Between Sept. 22 and 30 Rascon made 31 harassing phone calls to the victim’s home, even though the Cochise County court served an order of protection against him that stated he could not have any contact in person, phone, writing, third party nor electronic communication with the victim at her home, employment or anywhere else, Gonzalez said.

In January and May of 2008, Rascon called the victim at her home and sent an e-mail. The phone calls were traced through court subpoenas or phone records to several cell phones registered to Rascon or phones associated to him. Rascon also created a fraudulent My Space account under the victim’s name with obscene messages to harass her.

He also posted a picture of himself holding a beer bottle at his crotch and emailed it to a Douglas police officer with a heading that read, “Para mis chotitas en dougies,” which translates to, “To my little cops in dougies,”

Although the photograph and e-mail mocked the Douglas Police Department, the police did not include these as charges against him, Gonzalez said. The image, though, was forwarded to the Cochise County Attorney’s Office for prosecution, Gonzalez said.

On June 21 officers in Douglas recognized Rascon as he was driving his vehicle and they stopped and arrested him for the pending domestic violence and harassment charges.

Rascon was charged with 33 counts of domestic violence-use of a telephone; 34 counts of domestic violence-violation of a court order; and 35 counts of domestic violence-aggravated harassment.

He is being held at Cochise County jail, where he  awaits arraignment.

Maybe Douglas police should start doing something else like actually solving a crime. Oh wait.. I forget Douglas police are mostly behind the crimes in Douglas. Congrats Douglas Police not only have you made a love spelled guy an embarrassment you have now lied that you were able to obtain information through a fake myspace he made. So my question how were you able to get this information yet deaths in Douglas still are not solved???HMMMMMMM "

    " Realize that it is the courts that release these offenders, not the police. The cops can only take them off the streets temporarily. It is up to the courts to get justice for the victims and quite often they don't do that. Blame the courts. Also, I think the reason he was stopped is because the cops recognized him and knew he was wanted for the crimes he committed. Offenders need to take responsibility for thier actions, not blame the cops for catching them for committing the crimes. There probably is more to the story,what else did Rascon do? "

    " It's incredible how DPD can arrest one man, but you either ignore many others that have done the same or worse. Does this include courts? It's amazing how many other people have gotten away with worse domestic violence and yet one person who makes a gazillion phone calls can be put in jail. What about the others? What about the other men who DPD knows cause harm to other women and their families? Why does the court only give them a slap on the hand and let them go on their merry way? "

    " Glad to see Douglas' finest doing a good job getting this man off the streets. It took a while so he must have fled and been hiding for some time knowing that he was wanted. Hopefully other women will now know that this man is a potential danger and be smart enough to not date him. From this story it looks like the victim was fortunate to not have been injured or killed. Women there are good men out there who will treat you with respect, choose wisely. "

    " Why was he stopped? Was there a reason? Sounds like he was being harrassed to me. Where did all the details for this story come from? Maybe this was payback for the picture that he supposedly sent. "
