Two Douglas children were struck by lightning Tuesday evening.

The seven year-old girl and nine-year-old boy were transported to Southeast Arizona Medical Center for evaluation. From there, they were transported to a trauma center in Phoenix, fire authorities said.

At about 7:10 p.m. Tuesday the children were at the 3rd Street Park when they were hit by lightning. Paramedic said the children were conscious and talking when they arrived. The children’s mother had called 911 when the children were hit.

" I remember back in 1966. The first member of my DHS graduating class to die was killed by lightening less than two months after graduation. It happens, take precautions. "

" This brings back some chilling memories from eight years ago when two Douglas boys were struck by lightning while walking near San Antonio Ave. Pehaps the Dispatch can write an indepth feature on the hazards of lightning and update us on all the victims from the Douglas area. There have also been a few struck at the golf course over the years. Some are ok and some not as well. Hopes and prayers for the little ones and their families. "

" I know that not a lot of information was released, but the children were not at the 3rd st park. They were in the Rec Center park area on 3rd St. Different park altogether. I hope they are o.k. it sounds like a bad experience. "
