All the community is invited to attend the Annual 4th of July Parade, on Friday at 10:00 a.m. on G Avenue.

The monsoon clouds are moving in each day, but the Fourth of July fireworks are nevertheless expected to go as usual–unless a rainstorm cancels the festivities. In 2006 and 2007 the heavy rains caused the show to be postponed.

Pyrotechnics there will be setting up the 650 shells at the Calvary Cemetery on Thursday which will be launched on Friday, July 4th.

The show is anticipated to begin just after dusk, or at about 8:20 p.m.

The Douglas Fire Department would like to remind the community that the Calvary Cemetery will be closed to the public beginning Thursday July 3rd at 3 p.m. through July 5th at noon. This is to create a safe zone while the fireworks are being set up and dismantled after the fireworks show.

The department is also offering a few tips to follow for a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July.

√ The weather during this time of year can take effect on a person, drink plenty of water and clear liquids and remember to stay in the shade. Alcohol consumption should be limited and can cause dehydration faster. Sodas and juices don’t replenish water fast enough like plain water does.

√ Use a good sun block to protect adults and children. The higher the SPF numbers the better. Always use a waterproof block if swimming is planned for the day.

√ Remember to keep your pets in mind also, keep fresh cool water available and keep pets in the shade. Never keep your pet inside of a vehicle.

√ Fireworks are illegal in the State of Arizona and you can be fined or arrested for illegal fireworks displays. Keep in mind that poor quality of fireworks bought from vendors can be dangerous and even deadly.

√ Store perishable food in the appropriate temperature settings to avoid food poisoning.

√ Portable tents and shades should be secured and fastened to avoid wind gusts from damaging equipment or causing injuries.

√ Remember to always have a designated driver and never drink and drive.

There is a 20 percent chance of rain predicted for Douglas on the Fourth of July, said Glenn Lader, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Tucson. The highs are

predicted to be in the 90’s with the low in the 80’s by about 10p.m.
