Border Patrol agents make significant arrests

Tucson, AZ—Border Patrol Agents from the Tucson Sector arrest a criminal with gang affiliations near Douglas, Arizona, while Agents from the Willcox Station arrest a convicted sex offender in there area of operations.


On July 7th, late in the afternoon, Border Patrol Agents assigned to the Douglas Station, arrested a man identified as Manuel Escobar Ortega, from Mexico. Integrated Automated Fingerprint Index System (IAFIS) revealed that Escobar was arrested by the Carol Stream, Illinois Police Department on charges of: Harboring Runaway, Resist Peace Officer, Domestic Battery, and Criminal Sexual Abuse/Victim 13-17. Escobar was convicted of the Obstructing Justice in Illinois Circuit Court, and sentenced to 33 days in jail and 24 months probation.  IAFIS also revealed that Escobar is a documented Sureno 13 gang member. Escobar is being held pending prosecution, and removal proceedings.

Yesterday, Border Patrol Agents assigned to the Wilcox Station arrested a man identified as Hugo Alberto Godinez Gomez of San Carlos, Guanajuato, Mexico.  IAFIS revealed that Godinez was convicted of Unlawful Intercourse with a Person under 18. Godinez is being held pending prosecution, and removal proceedings have been initiated.

Criminal background inquiries investigated by Tucson Sector Border Patrol Agents have led to the discovery of over 38,000 cases of prior criminal convictions in illegal aliens apprehended between October 1, 2007 and June 30, 2008
