Mitzi Aguirre of Davis California, was the winner of the annual Grand Theatre Raffle.

Douglas resident Bill Wendt drew the winning ticket with Nick Forsythe and Debra Wendt as official witnesses. First runner-up is Jerome J. Fagg from Kailua Kona, Hawaii. The runner up would be the winner should Aguirre be unable to claim the grand prize  of $3,000 within 30 days.

Carlos Valenzuela, chairperson of the raffle, said, “In spite of a national campaign in magazines, thousands of direct mail pieces and phone calls, results were low due to a downturn in the economy and high gas prices. Charitable organizations have seen a decline in contributions in the past six months. Nonetheless we provided a good return for an investment of $75 per ticket. We appreciate every contribution to the renovation of our theatre and maintain our resolve as strong as ever.”

Proceeds from the annual raffle, organized by the Douglas Arts and Humanities Association, benefit the renovation of the historic Grand Theatre on G Avenue. For additional information on DAHA activities, or to find out how they can get involved, visit www.GrandTheatreDouglas.org.
