Douglas, Az — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Douglas port of entry intercepted four different smuggling attempts over a recent five day period, preventing over 450 pounds of marijuana from entering the United States.

The second narcotic seizure occurred on Wednesday, July 2, at about 7:55 pm, when a CBP officer screening incoming vehicles became suspicious of the driver of a 2000 Buick Century. CBP officers removed 10 bundles, with an approximate weight of 266 pounds, which were seized along with the vehicle. The driver, a lawful permanent resident, was arrested.
The third narcotics seizure occurred on Friday, July 4, at about 2:30 pm, when CBP officers conducting daily enforcement operations selected a 2000 Chevrolet Venture van for a routine inspection. A total of 10 packages of marijuana were removed, weighing over 16 pounds, which were seized along with the vehicle. The driver, a 38-year-old man, was arrested and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further processing.
The fourth narcotic seizure occurred on Saturday, July 5, at about 11:00 pm, when a CBP officer screening incoming vehicles became suspicious of the driver and passenger of a 2002 Ford Windstar van and sent them in for further inspection. CBP officers requested a narcotic detector dog to screen the vehicle which resulted in a positive alert for the presence of a narcotic odor. A total of 78 packages of marijuana were discovered hidden throughout the vehicle.
The approximate weight of the narcotics was 110 pounds which, along with the vehicle, were seized. The driver, a 34-year-old man, and passenger, a 26-year-old women (both citizens of the United States) were arrested and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.
Estimated total street value of all the marijuana seized in these incidents is close to $400,000.
