A Douglas man was arrested Monday in connection with the aggravated assault of Oscar Sodari, who was left beaten and unconscious on the street at Sunspots trailer park.

Steve Fernandez, 30, of 2220 Warpath, was arrested and booked at the Cochise County jail, where he is being held on a $50,000 bail.

On May 4 Fernandez and Sodari, 31, had some kind of a disagreement, said Marcus Gonzalez, the spokesman for the Douglas Police Department.

Fernandez viciously assaulted Sodari and left him lying on the asphalt with severe injuries, he said.

Several hours later a woman leaving her home found Sodari. She called for help and Sodari was immediately air-evacuated to a Tucson hospital and treated for severe head trauma.

After a grand jury indicted Fernandez, Douglas police obtained an arrest warrant for him and found him at his home, Gonzalez said.

Anyone having additional information on this case is urged to call the Douglas Police Department’s Investigations Division at 364-9422 or Douglas Police Department Crime Check at 364-4433.

" No one is making up excuses. For no one !! It seems like people need to look at both sides of the story before judging. We don't know what really happen. So remember what that last person wrote,"Innocent until proven guilty!" But hey who am I to say right, you people already made your mind up about steven. There is something really fishy about all this. I really think and many others do to, that they got the wrong man. And who ever is really guilty of this. Should indeed come clean. Thank You. "

" It is obvious you are all relatives or friends of the accused. I don't care for either but The Daily Dispatch gets their info from the police they aren't biased they are just reporting. As for the victim he was severly beaten with head trauma.. It doesn't matter what kind of person he is, he is still human. The suspect in this case fernandez needs to take responsibility and so does their family stop making excuses this is why live in a world like this. "

" To the people who wrote GOOD EXECUTE HIM, in the United States you are innocent until proven guilty.
I think that all of the information that was put in the paper is biased. It is based on the testimony of a person that is a known trouble maker and had been drinking and ingesting drugs the night of the incident.
Steve is a person who has been given a bad name because of his past. He is not a trouble maker and keeps to himself. He on the other hand does not have a record. "

James Gonzales wrote on Jul 18, 2008 4:22 PM:

" The man is innocent. He should not be charged for anything check the neighborhood check the people around the neighborhood. There is people in that neighborhood that are more than likely to be guilty for it. The man that beaten was probably on crack to begin with and your going to trust the judgement of a crack attic. The crack attic might as well blurt out any name he feels like. "
