The City of Douglas is in discussions with call center representatives to hire up to 300 more call center agents.

City officials working closely with the call center will know the specifics later this week, said Douglas City Manager Curtis Shook.
In the meantime, the 100 call center agents that started their training on July 11 will be in actual production by August 10, Shook said.
The call center agents are being trained at the Recreation Center on 3rd Street. After their training, they will begin their work at the Visitor’s Center.
On July 21 a second group of call center agents began their training.
If the deal with the call center representatives does go through, the facilities at the Recreation Center will have to be expanded in order to accommodate the increased number of trainees.
Shook said the former Bayless building on 10th Street is being remodeled and should be in operation by mid December.
The call center will be a major economic factor in Douglas, which has the potential to hire hundreds of workers and bring new money into the local economy.
