Much needed rain will always bring unwanted weeds.

Not doing so is in violation of the city code.
What are the “Public Rights-Of-Way”?
The right-of-way areas, as some may not know, are from the private property line to the curb or edge of pavement, and the portion of the alley contiguous (from one end to the other) with the property to the centerline of the alley.
Some of the items that could be in violation of this code may be overgrowth of any vegetation, accumulation of trash, litter, and debris, furniture in the alleyways or side and front yards.
Allowing the overgrowth of weeds, grass and vegetation places your property in violation and the proper cutting and disposal is what the city is requesting of the residents.
When these weeds dry up, they pose a different danger…Fire!
To avoid that danger, please tend to the weeds now that the soil is moist and they are easier to pull. Getting to the weeds before they flower and seed will lessen the chances of more growing in the future.
If you decide to spray the weeds with vegetation killer, Ortho.com suggests, “apply to bare ground or when weeds are present and if weeds are taller than 6 inches cut down and remove before application.”
For best results vegetation killer should be applied when daytime temperatures are at least 60 degrees. That allows the chemical to get into the roots and kill then, not just the leaves.
For more information regarding the city codes on weed removal, contact the City of Douglas Code Enforcement at 520-417-7314 for areas relating from International Street to 11th Street; call 417-7311 for area from 12th Street to 23rd Street.
