A bomb threat at the Bank Of America halted business for about half an hour in downtown Douglas Tuesday afternoon.

Businesses were evacuated from their stores on Tuesday afternoon while police investigated a bomb threat at Bank of America.

Douglas Police Spokesman Marcus Gonzalez said a Hispanic male called the bank, at the 1001 block of 10th Street and G Avenue, about 2:35 p.m. and told the desk clerk, “There’s several bombs in the building.”

The clerk immediately reported the threat to her manager and police.

Douglas police evacuated the bank as well as some of the surrounding buildings such as Backdrop Photography and the Douglas Public Library.

The police stopped all vehicle and pedestrian traffic on G Avenue from 10th Street to 11th Street, Gonzalez said.

The police conducted a preliminary search of the inside of the bank for any suspicious items. None were found, Gonzalez said.

A second search of the bank with the bank manager was conducted with the same results, Gonzalez said.

Police opened the streets at 3:20 p.m.

The identity of the caller is still not known. The Douglas police are continuing the investigation, Gonzalez said.
