A Douglas man is in critical condition following a morotcycle accident Wednesday.

Miguel Morales, 59, was air evacuated to University Medical Center in Tucson, where he is listed in critical condition for severe injuries to the head.

At about 8: 20 p.m. Wednesday Morales was heading eastbound toward Douglas on a 1991 Yamaha motorcycle when he was rear-ended by Armando Soto, 33, who was driving a 2002 Yukon, said Joy Craig, a spokeswoman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The collision occurred at mile marker 363, about a quarter mile east of the entrance to Southeast Arizona Medical Center, she said.

Because of his head injuries, Morales was transported to UMC. He was not wearing a helmet, Craig said.

DPS officers feel that a helmet would have lessened the severity of the injuries, she said.
