Gas prices dropping countywide
According to the Cochise College Center for Economic Research’s latest biweekly survey of gas prices, conducted during the week of August 25, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Cochise County dropped from $3.79 to $3.67 over the two-week period. According to AAA Arizona, the statewide price decreased from $3.77 to $3.63 per gallon. Nationally, according to the Energy Information Administration, gas prices decreased from $3.81 to $3.69 during the two-week period.

Meeting of the minds
At the annual meeting of the League of Arizona Cities held in Phoenix, August 19 - 21, City Manager Curtis Shook organized a caucus of the four Mayors of the Arizona Border Cities. This was the first occasion that all four Mayors met. After learning from GSA that more Federal dollars are being spent in California and Texas port of entries, the Mayors decided to form an alliance. They Arizona Mayors will lobby for more federal dollars for infrastructure to increase rapid flow of transportation of vehicles as well as pedestrian traffic. County official: Voter turnout for primary was ‘light’

American Community Survey looks at Cochise County
The U.S. Census Bureau recently released results from its 2006 American Community Survey. This was the second year Cochise County was included in the survey, which provides annual updates to the census data collected every 10 years. Prior to 2005, only communities with a population of 250,000 or more were included. In 2005, this was changed to include populations of 65,000 or more.
