TUCSON – The Arizona National Golf Course, home course to the University of Arizona men’s and women’s golf teams got the best of the Douglas High School golf team Tuesday as the Bulldog golfers finished third in a triangular match.

Douglas’ Golf Coach Bosco Selchow said Sabino won the match but he did not have their final team score. Rincon was second shooting a 193 and Douglas third with a 205.

Kevin Valenzuela shot the Bulldogs lowest score of the day finishing with a 46 – which is high for him.

Luis Rodriguez followed with a 50, Erich Hernandez 54, Gabriel Ortega 55, Istac Villanueva shot a 56 and Liz Clark closed out with a 60.

Coach Selchow said Arizona National is a tough course to play on and there is definite room for improvement from his golfers.

“There is no room for error on this course,” he said “It can really test your confidence.”

Coach Selchow said its important golfers have confidence when they play.

“I’m a little disappointed,” the coach said. “I thought we could have played better.”

The Bulldog golfers are off until next Tuesday at which time they will face Pueblo on the Douglas Golf Course before heading to Tucson next Thursday to face Palo Verde.

Coach Selchow said he has four days to work with his golfers and try to get them ready for the upcoming matches.

When asked what he plans on working on with his golfers.

“We need to work on everything,” the coach replied.
