The energetic young members of the Cochise County Youth Orchestra will take the stage at Veteran’s Memorial Park Bandshell in Sierra Vista to entertain the crowd with a lunchtime performance of fiddle tunes during the 4th Annual Sierra Vista Fiddle Contest.

The contest will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

The robust sound of the 28 member “strings-only” orchestra will bring new life to some traditional tunes such as “Poor Wayfaring Stranger” and “Tying Knots in the Devil’s Tail,” as well as Spade Cooley’s arrangement of “Swinging the Devil’s Dream.”

A number of CCYO members will compete in youth divisions of the contest, beginning at 10 a.m. After the CCYO’s performance, the contest continues after lunch with a performance by the fiddling Rubio Family from El Paso, TX, followed by Young Adult and Adult Divisions, Guitar Accompaniment, Twin Fiddle, Trick & Fancy Fiddle, and the Break Your Fiddle Competition

Buena High School Bands Association will sell food concessions throughout the day and there will be many valuable items for raffle, including two guitars. For more info visit www.ccyo.info and click fiddle contest or call 520-220-1166.
