Having just been released from country jail on Oct. 2, a Douglas man robbed a feed store west of town.

Willie Neri, 23, of Douglas, was returned to the Cochise County jail after robbing Iroquois Feeds. He was charged with theft and burglary and is being held on a $75,000 bond, said Carol Capas, the spokeswoman for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Department.

According to Capas, Neri entered into the feed store while the owner was out. As Neri was leaving the store, the owner stepped in and asked Neri if he needed any help.

Neri said he needed to use the phone and could use some water. The owner then saw that something was wrong with the cash register.

The owner asked Neri if he had stolen the money. Neri pulled out the money, about $150, and put it on the counter, including his own identification card, Capas said.

Neri asked the owner not to call the police. Neri then left the store through the front door, Capas said.

Sheriff’s deputies, Douglas police and Border Patrol agents searched for Neri in the surrounding area and desert. Border Patrol agents tracked Neri to an abandoned house west of Douglas.

" Thank you County Attornies for allowing this man out on our streets again. He has truly proven he is a changed, trustworthy individual. Maybe for only a few minutes, but dang that's a success. I feel safe knowing that our County Attorney is protecting us. "

" I guess if the court, jails, lawyers and judges knew about Neri's past history, they would have kept him locked up. When are we going to reform our justice system and have the three strikes your out for good, system take place. He has a long history of thefts, burglaries and assaults, Time to keep him locked up for life. Just my opinion. "
