A Douglas man traveling more than 60 miles per hour on a Douglas City street collided with a northbound vehicle.

Ernesto Rodriguez, 35, was transported to Southeast Arizona Medical Center, said Marcus Gonzalez, the spokesman for the Douglas Police Department.

According to Gonzalez, Rodriguez was traveling westbound on 3rd Street at about 11:16 p.m. on Oct. 11. He ran through the stop sign on F Avenue and struck a Nissan Murano that was being driven by an 18-year-old woman. The posted speed limit is 25 mph for Douglas residential areas, unless otherwise noted, such as school crossings.

The Murano was hit on the back end, which caused it to spin several times, Gonzalez said. The young woman was not injured.

Rodriquez was charged with criminal speed, DUI, with Blood Alcohol Content of .08 or greater; with extreme DUI and Blood Alcohol Content of  .15 or greater, Gonzalez said.

" If the posted speed limit was 25mph, and the individual was going 60+, he should have been arrested, booked, and sent to jail instantly, he is lucky no one was killed. I feel for the individual of the other vehicle and for the parents, they don't deserve this. "
