Red Ribbon week kicked off with a bang!

Paul Huber Character Ambassadors and the Douglas Elks Lodge #955 teamed up to begin the week by  passing out Red Ribbons and educational brochures and having all Paul Huber Students sign the Drug Awareness banner committing to stay away from Drugs and Alcohol.

Monday’s kickoff was windy but all the students were eager to learn about Drug and Alcohol Prevention.

Elks’ Exalted Ruler Richard Ross along with PER Leading Knight John Foster and Drug Awareness Chairman Esquire Nick Chavez were on hand to help.

“Educating our children at a younger level helps in keeping our children safe,” said Ross.

“It’s only one small facet of the program but it takes all of us to help educated everyone in Prevention.  The Elks are committed to help to educate our future leaders. This could not have been accomplished without others who are just as committed as we are at the Elks Lodge.  We would like to thank  Lucy Rosario, PHMS Counselor, Character Ambassadors Club; and Martin Muecke, Principal for allowing us to kick off this week.”

Paul Huber Middle School has many planned event through out the week such a Poster Contest and many guest speakers.

Leading Knight PER John Foster presented some leather gloves to one of the Paul Huber students.  These gloves are made by the Veterans Association from the Elks Leather Program.  This one of many programs, which helps not only our kids, but our Veterans as well.  If you have any questions you can contact the Elks at 364-5132.
