Road Construction

The City of Douglas continues work on various projects.  This work is being completed by the Department of Public Works and is part of the Mayor and Council’s ongoing infrastructure improvement program.


‘A’ Avenue Road improvements along ‘A’ Avenue from 10th Street through 23rd Street will commence on November 5th.  The City asks that everyone obey all construction detours and use caution while driving or walking in this construction area.

Sunwestern Contractors, contracted by the City continues with the Water & Wastewater System Improvements Phase II Project.  Water and Sewer main installation will take place at:

1) Water – Continued construction on the east side of Leslie Canyon Road, on the north side of Highway 80.  Boring continues underneath Highway 80 and paving continues on 15th Street from Washington Avenue to Rogers Avenue.  Water line repair also continues on 5th Street and G Avenue.

2) Sewer – Sewer line replacement will take place in the alley between 7th and 8th Street east of Washington Avenue.  Services may be interrupted.  Continued work at the intersection of 6th Street and Florida Avenue, 6th Street and Rose Avenue, 6th Street and San Antonio Avenue, and 8th Street and San Antonio Avenue. 

Construction will continue through November 14, 2008.  These streets may be closed to through traffic during working hours.  Please be alert to more detailed information regarding street closures and the construction detours.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continues re-grading and lining the channel bottom and slopes with concrete as well as doing service road improvements on International Avenue between J Avenue to A Avenue.  This work will continue through August 2009.  Please be alert to area detours and barriers.

Paving will take place on the east side of the parking lot at the Call Center.  Christmas decoration installation begins. 

Fire hydrant and water system maintenance continues along with miscellaneous concrete repairs, pothole patching, and graffiti cleanup throughout the city.  Please take caution when driving or walking near an area where City personnel are flushing and testing fire hydrants.

Should problems arise with water and/or sewer services on the weekend or a holiday, please contact the Douglas Police Department at 364-8422 and staff on call will be dispatched to your residence.  The City asks that you please obey all construction detours and use caution while driving or walking through these construction zones.  Please help keep everyone safe.

    I always feel I m in Douglas, Son. MX. Pot holes and all.
    It is way over due for repairs.
