Aira was flown first with life-threatening injuries. Guillian was taken to the Copper Queen Hospital and then flown to the same facility.
As of presstime Guillian is on life support and in critical condition in the intensive care unit with severe head injuries.
After an investigation of the crash scene, Long said it appeared Aira was heading westbound in a Chevy truck on Highway 80, drifted off the roadway, overcompensated and somehow crashed into the mountainside on the eastbound side of the highway.
Both men were pinned in the truck and were extricated by the Bisbee Fire Department.
Traffic along Highway 80 was temporarily shut down as the accident was cleared.
Aira was born and raised in Douglas, attending Loreto School and graduating from Douglas High School.
In 1957, he entered the funeral home business working under Curtis Page and Gordon Brown of Brown-Page Mortuary and eventually purchased the business with Robert (Bobby) Benson. He later became sole owner.
Upon his semi-retirement, he turned over operations to his nephews David Escarcega who is the current Owner/Funeral Director and Joseph (Chacho) Greth, but continued to be actively involved in the family business.
See obitutary on Page A2 for more information.
