While most of the attention in the November 4 election was the race between John McCain and Barack Obama and some select county races, there were still many issues decided on the ballot.

In the Sulphur Springs Valley, Elfrida voters cast ballots against the high school district’s budget override by 891 to  669. In school unification votes, Double Adobe voted against an elementary school district unification 133-62, while in the Elfrida Elementary School District, voters said yes by a narrow margin of 184 to 160. The McNeal Elementary School District also voted against the measure by a vote of 82-66.

Farther north, Pearce  Elementary School District voters cast yes  ballots 555-379 for unification.

For the Pearce School District, Mickey McCarter, 498 votes, and Jayne Sweatt, 459 votes, won the two available seats. Jessica “Jaymee” Hernandez finished with 387 votes.

In the Elfrida Fire District, Alma Garcia, 209 votes, and Suzanne Makin, 138 votes, took the two seats, while Joseph Korosec, 106 votes, and Lynn Kay Marshall, 90 votes, finished out of the running.

Robert “Mac” McWilliams narrowly defeated Bobby Cook, 359 to 338, for the position of Sunsites/Pearce Fire Department Chief. Wynema Bell narrowly defeated Kimmy Jones, 299 to 276 for the  Sunsites/Pearce secretary/treasurer post.
