Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., spoke to a group of Douglas Area Democrats Saturday about getting to the voting booth on Tuesday. Giffords traveled through her district to rally support for the Democratic candidates running for office and, of course, to support Barack Obama. She raised the issues that America is now facing.

“There are still forty seven million Americans without health insurance, we have climate issues and there is the seven hundred billion dollar bailout,” she said.

The next president will have to deal with these big issues as soon as he takes office, she said.

At the local level, four Democratic candidates are running for office. For State House, District 25, Rick Boyer and Pat Fleming; State Senate, Manny Alvarez; for the Cochise County Board of Supervisors, Ann English.

Douglas Mayor Mike Gomez and City Councilman Bob Fernandez were also present.

Fernandez, who introduced Giffords, reminded everyone to go out and vote.
