BISBEE — With strong margins of victory behind them, Republican incumbents Pat Call and Richard Searle will welcome a new member to the Cochise County Board of Supervisors — Democrat Ann English.

The three candidates were in the lead early as results started to come in and continued to keep their leads in each of their districts as the count progressed.

With all precincts reporting, the unofficial results Tuesday were: Call with 61.35 percent of the vote in District 1, English had 53.99 percent in District 2, and Searle had 59.22 percent in District 3.

English will take the seat of the District 2 supervisor that is currently held by Paul Newman. English served in the position from 1985 to 1992.

“I’m very excited about it,” English said. “I never expect a handy victory and I just kept working as hard as I could. You never know who will turn out to vote so you have to keep going. I look forward to working with Pat Call and Richard Searle and to representing my district’s residents.”

She plans to hit the ground running next week to get abreast of the coming issues she will face when her four-year term begins.

“It’s a great feeling,” said Searle, who was taking down his campaign signs on Tuesday night. “It’s like getting a four-year job review and it appears I met the expectations of the people in my district. It’s a humbling experience to have that many people stand up and say ‘You’ve done a good job.’ I do appreciate the support of everyone. I’m looking forward to the next four years working with Ann and Pat.”

Searle also was appreciative he doesn’t have to take down as many signs as he put up. It seems some have disappeared, he said with a laugh.

Call will be serving a third term.

“I’m really gratified for the support of the people of District 1,” he said. “I couldn’t be more honored to represent them for another four years. I also look forward to continue working with Richard and now with Ann. She has experience and a great deal of common sense.”
