Cochise County, AZ – Nov. 19, 2008 – Consumers across the country are receiving notification from an Encino, Calif. company that they’ve won a $300 gas giveaway, but Better Business Bureau warns it’s a scam.

The mailing also refers customers to www.GasGiveAway300.com. According to the Web site, the $29.95 processing fee will be offset by a $1,000 certificate for a shopping spree. “You’ll be able to purchase electronics, house wares, gifts and more for FREE….People love this certificate.” The Web site does not indicate where the certificate can be redeemed.
Both the mailing and the Web site have an old version of the BBB logo and the company, Rewards Printing, falsely claims to be a proud member of the BBB. Rewards Printing in fact has an “F” rating with BBB.
BBB was made aware of this scam by Sunoco, which is one of many major gas chains mentioned on the card; they are not participating in the giveaway and have circulated an internal memo to all Sunoco locations that this is a scam and they are not honoring the cards. Consumers who send the $29.95 are likely to get nothing in return.
If you receive this offer in the mail do not send money and contact your BBB in Cochise County, 520-459-2880 or in Tucson at 520-888-5353.
