Locals arrested for transporting 230 pounds of marijuana

Two Douglas and one Elfrida resident was arrested earlier this week when their vehicles were  stopped and a bundles of marijuana were discovered.


This is how the marijuana bundles were found in the car after the Arizona Department of Public Safety officer stopped the suspects for a traffic violation.

On Wednesday November 19, at about 9:54 a.m., an officer with the Arizona Department of Public Safety stopped two vehicles traveling westbound on Interstate 10.  The vehicles, a Ford Explorer and a Chevrolet pickup were stopped for a traffic and equipment violation.

When the officer approached the Explorer he saw bundles of marijuana in the back of the vehicle as well as in the front passenger seat.  A total of 230 pounds was found in the Explorer. 

While speaking with the subjects from the two vehicles the officer was able to determine that the two vehicles were traveling together.

The driver of the Explorer, Fausto Guzman, 21, Douglas, was arrested.  The driver of the pickup, Jorge Abril, 18, from Elfrida, and passenger Jose Valencia, 18, Douglas, were also arrested.  Fausto Guzman was booked into the Pima County Jail for possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, and transportation of marijuana for sale.  Jorge Abril and Jose Valencia were booked into the Pima County Jail and charged with conspiracy to transport marijuana for sale.

    " No. Pots commin' through because theres a demand for it. People like it, and for the most part, a lot of people. If the prison a felons been in before let him out, thats a second chance, no matter how you cut it. after the first f up, stop. before that keep the flow. but the stuff should be legal, eventually, or move to another country and be happier higher. People are loosing their jobs, so they have to find a way to survive Specialy we don't have anything good in this boder town that we could say theirs good paying jobs. Specialy to those fellons that can't get a second chance. We have all the doors closed every where. We might of made a mistake, but good people learn from their mistakes God gives us a second chance , so why doesn't the government gives us a second opportunity. Thats why people keep on going to the same thing. "

    " Maybe if there were more jobs in Douglas and more after school programs for young children, Douglas residents wouldnt turn to drugs. Just a thought. "
