Santa coming to Douglas today

Santa Claus is making a quick trip to Douglas this weekend for two events.


Saturday night, Santa will make his formal first visit during the annual Douglas Light parade.

The theme of this year’s parade is “A Who’s Christmas.”

The parade will begin at the corner of 3rd Street and G Avenue at 7 p.m.

Those wishing more information can contact the City of Douglas Recreation Department at 364-2496.

Saint Nick was in townearlier inthe day for the annual “Breakfast with Santa” sponsored by the Douglas Dispatch and participating merchants.

Activities kicked off at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Douglas Elks Lodge, located on 10th Street across from Castro Park.

Children 12 and under were welcome to eat free all-you-can-eat pancakes along with sausage, orange drink and coffee.  Adults can eat for only $1 and all funds go to Elks Lodge Youth Programs.

At 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Santa Claus stopped at the Elks Lodge to meet with special boys and girls, provide them a gift and a candy cane.

Fashion Show

A free fashion show will be held at the Gadsden Hotel in Douglas at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 5. The show will include fashions by Cloz-Line, Ortega’s Store, 2-U-Casa Enrique, El Closet, Coleman’s, New Image, Illusions, Via Passarella and Glam.

Following the show, members of the Cochise College Choir will perform in the lobby of the historic hotel. On Dec. 6, the streets in front of the Gadsden will be closed for a craft show, auto show, sidewalk sales and the arrival of Santa Claus.
