SIERRA VISTA - The Douglas Lady Bulldogs chalked up another 2-0 win Tuesday over the Buena Lady Colts in second round action of the Brandon Bean soccer invitational.

On Monday the Lady Bulldogs blanked the Palo Verde Lady Titans by the same score of 2-0 in the season opener. Lina Campbell had two goals that match.

On Tuesday Elise Urquijo scored in the 57th minute off a Melia Skinner assist. Six minutes later Michelle Chavez scored off another Skinner assist giving Douglas its 2-0 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs out shot Buena 11-3; Lady Bulldog goalie Liz Clark had three saves.

Douglas’ coach Angelica Chavez said afterwards the match was physical as she expected it to be but she was very happy to see her team played hard all night long and not once did the Lady Bulldogs ever le up.

“It wasn’t the prettiest game we played,” she said. “In fact we were kind of sloppy but it was a win.”

The coach said Cory Vega, Jordan Arvayo and freshmen Allison Ortega and Victoria Mariscal all played well defensively and offensively there were some bright spots.

The Lady Bulldogs, 2-0, were in Tucson Wednesday for round three of the Brandon Bean Invitational. Due to the early Thanksgiving Day deadline for the Douglas Dispatch those results were not available at press time. The Lady Bulldogs play Pusch Ridge on Friday back in Tucson. Results from both games will run in the weekend edition.
