By Monday, the City of Douglas will turn over the keys of the call center to ACCT officials. The call center is located at 1701 10th Street. In his monthly City Manager’s Report, Curtis Shook said that a tour would be conducted at the center for City and ACCT officials. Shook said the community is also encouraged to attend the tour of the facilities.

For now the chairs are mostly empty at the ACCT call center. By Monday, though, about 100 call center employees will be working and initiating the first phase at the call center located at 1701 10th Street. City officials conducted a tour of the facilities Friday afternoon. Construction crews were adding the finishing touches to the center. On Monday two bays with more than 300 stations will be turned over to ACCT officials. In all, there will be three bays with about 600 workstations. Extra parking for the call center has been added south of the center at the Club 3000.

In his report, he told the City Council that before January he will update his report on installing a system that can broadcast council meetings.

He also briefed the council on the A Avenue repaving project. Construction crews will be done with paving the east side of the street. When that is completed, the street will be opened and the west side of the street will be closed. The east side will also be a two-way street.

In keeping pace with the call center progress, the council approved a resolution that establishes parking rights at the Club 3000 for the estimated 500 employees at the center. The City will pave and maintain the area and the City will have parking privileges in perpetuity as long as the call center building is used as a call center. The Club 3000 parking lot Memorandum of Agreement is $33,800.

In other action the council approved:

√ Third reading of ordinance 08-952, which rezones about 2.2 acres of property generally located west of Washington Avenue and north of SR80. The ordinance rezones the property from single-family residential 32 square feet to mobile hoe residential.

√ Resolution 08-592, which grants Arizona Public Service a utility easement for installation and maintenance of electrical lines and appurtenant facilities and fixtures located along the west side of the Douglas Municipal Airport.

√ Resolution 08-593, which authorizes an agreement with the State of Arizona, Department of Homeland Security, for a reimbursable grant of $347,400 for overtime, mileage and equipment under Operation Stonegarden grant program. Anticipated overtime expenses are: $240,000;mileage reimbursements are $28,800 based on a 44.5 cents per mile; and $78,600 for the purchase of 12-p2 compatible portable radios.

√A revision of temporary employee salary schedule reflecting the minimum wage increase from $6.90 to $7.25 effective Jan. 1, 2009

" What jobs are secure now a days. With unemployment at it highest level since the 70's, we all sould be thankful for what we currently have and take care of it. The Call center has not been one of Douglas greatest accomplishments, I realy don't know if Douglas has a great accomplishment, but what is done, done. "

" I wonder how secure these jobs are. If the City of Douglas has to give the building to the ACCT. Why can't they afford it themmselves? If they are operating without sufficient capital to lease their own facility, maybe they shouldn't be in business at all. I wonder if the City of Douglas has plans to pay the business expenceses of any other company. "
