AARP Tax-aide seeks volunteers

Published/Last Modified on Thursday, December 11, 2008 3:06 PM MST

This year AARP Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service, is seeking volunteers who are bilingual in English/Spanish to assist the increasing numbers of Spanish-speaking taxpayers who are seeking assistance preparing and filing their tax returns.

Volunteers do not need to be an AARP member or retiree to participate.

AARP Tax-Aide volunteers receive free tax training and are reimbursed on a limited basis for qualified program-related expenses. They help taxpayers at sites around the country, learning new skills while giving back to countless communities.

For more information on how you can join the AARP Tax-Aide team, visit our Web site at www.aarp.org/taxaide-volunteer (English only) or call our toll-free number, 1-888-OUR-AARP (1-888-687-2277). Deadline for application is December 10, 2008.

AARP Tax-Aide is a program of the AARP Foundation, offered in conjunction with the IRS.

The AARP Foundation is AARP’s affiliated charity. Foundation programs provide security protection and empowerment for older persons in need. Low-income older workers receive the job training and placement they need to re-join the workforce. Free tax preparation is provided for low- and moderate-income individuals, with special attention to those 60 and older.

The Foundation’s litigation staff protects the legal rights of older Americans in critical health, long-term care, consumer and employment situations. Additional programs provide information, education and services to ensure that people over 50 lead lives of independence, dignity and purpose. Foundation programs are funded by grants, tax-deductible contributions and AARP.
