Yard sales are a great way to clear out the garage and make a few dollars. But Douglas residents who are interested in having a yard sale must first take out a permit at City Hall.

The cost for each permit is $5; people are allowed only four permits a year.
Having a yard sale without a permit or having them beyond the allotted four per year will result in a fine of $25 for each day of violation, Aguilar said.
A permit is good only for one day; therefore, if a permit holder continues to have the sale for three additional days, for example, he will be fined $75 or $25 per day.
Residents are also asked not to place yard sale signage on public property or public rights of way such as sidewalks or on telephone poles.
All signs must be on the permit holder’s property. If signage is going to be placed on a neighbor’s yard or fence, the neighbor’s permission must be asked in advance.
When the sale is completed, the City strongly encourages the permit holder to remove all signage from the area or else it will be considered litter and subject to citations and fines ranging from $25 to $500, depend on the offense.
