BREAKING NEWS All of the drama concerning the status of Douglas Unified School District Superintendent Earl Pettit ended with a thud Monday evening when the meeting to discuss his future had to be cancelled because there wasn’t a quorum. Board President Charles Hoyack and member Patricia Lopez were at the meeting. Danny Ortega, Jr., and Gloria Varela both were excused due to illness in the family. Art Estrada was scheduled to attend, but had not yet made the meeting by the 6 p.m. deadline Hoyack placed on the start time. The meeting was originally scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. Since there was not a quorum (a majority of board members present), no action could be taken. Since no action was taken, the meeting could not be rescheduled, so it is unclear whether the board will try to meet again before the holiday, or wait until after the New Year when the new board is in place. Approximately 30 people were in attendance at the meeting.
