Fake Candadian ID fails to fool Customs

Published/Last Modified on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 2:38 PM MST

Sunday, December 14, at about 3 p.m., two families  of 17 people, attempted to make entry into the United States through the Douglas Port  by presenting Canadian Citizenship Cards that appeared to be authentic.

The CBP Officers examined the cards very closely and noticed that there were some slight discrepancies. Further investigation revealed that all of the citizenship cards were fraudulent. The families were actually from Bolivia and they were trying to come into the United States by posing as Canadian Citizens.

“With the Western Hemisphere Initiative “WHTI” now in place, more security features have been added to passports and other official entry documents.” said Assistant Port Director Ernestine Morris “In conjunction with the enhanced security features the CBP Officers have received increase training in detecting fraudulent documents. The WHTI program is an integral component of layered enforcement that strengthens the security of our nation’s borders.”

All 17 family members were processed according to the statutes as directed by the Immigration Nationality Act.
