SIERRA VISTA — Firefighters were called to quell a brush fire that burned nearly five acres near the San Pedro River early Saturday morning.

The fire was first reported shortly after midnight and was located off Charleston Road and Escapule Road, said Fry Fire Chief Bill Miller.

“We were out there for a couple hours,” Miller said.

Two brush trucks and a structure fire engine were deployed to the fire, which burned portions of private land and land owned by the Bureau of Land Management, he said.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

As of 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, the Fry and Tombstone fire districts had trucks at the scene for cleanup efforts.
