The latest power point rankings were released Monday and the Douglas Lady Bulldogs soccer team has fallen from No. 1 to No. 4 after beating Catalina 9-0 last week in Gila Regional play.

Bruce Whetten / Douglas Dispatch Despite beating the No. 4 Catalina Lady Trojans 9-0 last week at Catalina, the Douglas Lady Bulldogs have fallen from No. 1 to No. 4 in the latest power point rankings. Sahuarita, who Douglas beat 2-1 two weeks ago in Tucson, is the new No. 1 team in the state. Sahuarita and Douglas have a rematch Friday at 6 p.m. at Douglas High School. The Lady Bulldogs host Santa Rita on Wednesday in a 6 p.m. game.

Sahuarita, 5-1, who fell to Douglas in the Palo Verde tournament two weeks ago, is the new No. 1 team in the state while Verrado High School of Phoenix and Cottonwood Mingus, both 5-0, are second and third respectively. Douglas sits at No. 4 with a 4-1 record and four games remaining.

The Lady Bulldogs will host No. 6 Santa Rita, 4-2, on Wednesday before closing out the home portion of their schedule Friday taking on Sahuarita in what should be a physical, exciting showdown. Both Douglas and Sahuarita have beaten each other the last several years adding a rivalry sort of atmosphere to the matches.

Both matches will start at 6 p.m. at Armando DeLucas Stadium.

The Lady Bulldogs conclude the regular season next week at Rio Rico and Amphi. Regional tournament play starts Jan. 26.

The Douglas Bulldog soccer team maintained its No. 1 ranking after beating No. 3 Catalina last week 5-1.

As a result of the loss Catalina fell from third to sixth in the latest poll.

Sahuarita, 4-2, is the No. 2 team in the state while Cortez, 4-1; Perry, 5-0 and Queen Creek, 5-1; are third fourth and fifth.

The Bulldogs, 4-1, are at No. 23 Santa Rita on Wednesday before heading to Sahuarita on Friday for a key Gila Regional showdown.

A top eight finish in the polls will give the two DHS soccer teams a first round state playoff game in three week. The higher the seed will host a lower seeded team as the top 16 teams make it to the state playoffs

Thirty-four teams are ranked in the soccer polls.

The Lady Bulldogs basketball team, who last week picked up two league wins to improve to 3-1 in league play, is ranked 20th in their poll.

Page, Perry, Raymond S. Kellis, Bradshaw Mountain and Seton Catholic are ranked first, second, third, fourth and fifth.

Palo Verde is the lone Gila Region team ranked in the top 10. The Lady Titans are currently eighth.

Sahuarita is next to follow at 19th followed by Douglas.

In the boys basketball poll the Bulldogs are ranked 31st out of 34 teams.

Greenway is No. 1, Notre Dame No. 2, Cortez No. 3, Queen Creek No. 4 and Amphi, out of the Gila Region, is ranked No. 5. Santa Rita and Palo Verde are seventh and eighth respectively.

The Bulldogs are at home on Wednesday hosting Canyon Del Oro and again on Friday hosting No. 22 Sahuarita.

Tip-off for both games is 7 p.m. in the DHS gym.
