In the early morning of Jan. 10 Rios was driving westbound on the 1900 block of 9th Street when he lost control of his Jeep Cherokee on the sharp curve of the road, said Marcus Gonzalez, spokesman for the Douglas Police Department.
Rios’s vehicle rolled over into a residential front yard then stopped as the Jeep hit a parked Mustang.
Rios was the driver and sole occupant. He was ejected from the Jeep and suffered severe head and chest trauma, Gonzalez said.
Douglas Fire paramedics transported him to the Douglas Municipal Airport, where he was transported to UMC. He died at about 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 12.
The cause of crash is still unknown as the crash is still under investigation. More information will be provided as it becomes available, Gonzalez said.
