The Douglas City Council approved a contract extension for Curtis Shook, the Douglas city manager. Shook was hired on May 30, 2007 with a contract that expires on June 17, 2009. The council will consider a two-year contract. Shook is responsible for the all center and with continuing the progress with the Government Plaza.

√ First reading of ordinance 09-954, which creates two positions to assist the city manager with overall management, which included new housing, neighborhoods and grants, code enforcement and a new neighborhoods program with a parks and recreations division; with some current functions and positions of the community development department being transferred to public works; consolidation of functions to include major finance related functions being moved to the finance department; specific reorganization included in his ordinance affect the public works department, community development department, housing department, fire department, finance department and administration department.
√ Resolution 09-595 which authorizes a renewal of the streetlight energy agreement, the street pole use license agreement and the streetlight operation maintenance and facilities, collectively the APS contracts.
√ Resolution 09-596, which authorizes a communication system agreement between the City and Qwest to purchase and install a plant Pallas 9-1-1 system that includes plant vela mapping and related equipment at 300 W. 14th Street in the amount of $203,330.92 to be funded by the Arizona Department of Administration to upgrade the police department’s enhanced 9-1-1 system.
√ Resolution 09-597, which authorizes the mayor to execute an intergovernmental agreement between the City and the Housing Authority of Cochise County to combine resources to temporarily share the position of housing director.
√ Resolution 09-598, which adopts revisions to the housing rehabilitation guidelines for FY 2009.
√ Resolution 09-599, which authorizes a grant from the Border Environmental Cooperation Commission in the amount of $66,100 for hazardous material training and equipment to be used by the City’s fire department and other national and international emergency response agencies in the border region.
√ Resolution 09-600, which authorizes a contract renewal with Tucson Medical Center Healthcare to provide base hospital emergency medical services to the fire department
√ Resolution 09-601 which authorizes an agreement with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety For The Children Are A Priceless Passenger program.
√ Resolution 09-602, which approves the submission of a grant funding application in the amount of $59,411.07 from the international, city, county, management association to purchase additional computers and related equipment for public use at the Douglas library.
√Resolution, 09-603, which grants to Southwest Gas Corporation a 36.61 foot wide utility easement for the installation and maintenance of a gas pipeline and appurtenances on the City property adjoining the property now known as the Best Western Hotel, located at 7th Street, between Chiricahua and Pan American Avenue.
√ Resolution 09-604, which authorizes an intergovernmental agreement with the governing board of the Douglas Unified School District No. 27 to undertake a civil infrastructure project and local school.
