Tuesday morning’s snowfall in Douglas made for some wintery fun. Above right Alex Villa and Jennifer and Chris Skinner build a snowman. Douglas received an estimated inch of snow. The white stuff was here for just about eight hours before melting. No major accidents were reported as a result of the snow. The last significant snow fall was two years ago. The storm dropped 2 to 3 inches of snow in the early morning in some

" This happy group are desert kids, what did you expect. The district has set aside a snow day but the super decided not to use it and guess what the district lost a lot of money. I work at an elementary school and more than 150 plus were absent. Some teachers did not teach their lessons. Douglas was the only district that had school. So have a heart and don't judge what you do not know.P.S. I let my 2 kids stay with their grandpa and they had a great time at Rucker Mountain. They made memories and they missed no work. Yes, I asked their teachers. "

" Ok to the person who comented before me. You are correct about the priorities and the parents. But did you know that Douglas schools were the only schools open in the entire COUNTY. how often does it snow in this boring town?

You complain about how bad the students are; well the reason is because there is nothing better to do in this town. Look how happy these kids are. I'm a student who missed as well. LET US LIVE A LITTLE! "

" Good for these kids to enjoy something that doesn't happen every year! And kudos to the parents who let them! I wish everyone could have enjoyed it! Missing one day of school to have "clean", decent fun without hurting themselves or anyone else should not be criticized, especially from someone who can't spell correctly! "

" Snow in Douglas is a once a year event! If it snows at all! The fact that these kids were able to enjoy such an event instead of being in a classroom with their thoughts drifting to wishing they were outside enjoying the snow is ok with me. There is more to learning than sitting in a classroom. I have yet to read anything negative about teachers that take time off from teaching to attend a game or attend something personal. That costs the school money! Loosen up! If you think that a day off to enjoy the snow makes these kids bad kids or us parents irresponsible, what is your excuse for being bitter and not knowing how to spell properly? Maybe you should have taken a snow day off...or two! "

" My question is, "Why aren't these students in school?" As far as I'm concerned, school was still open on this day. I can't believe how some parents let their children miss out on education for no reason. Then parents wonder why some of our kids are the way they are. Irresponsible. We need to get our prioritys straight. "
