Former Douglas mayor Ray Borane resigned Monday as Governor Napolitano’s border advisor.

Former Douglas Mayor Ray Borane resigned this week as Governor Janet Napolitano’s border advisor since the governor may soon be headed to Washington as head of Department of Homeland Security.

In October 2008, Napolitano selected Borane as her policy advisor on border and immigration issues.

Borane’s resignation comes in the wake of Napolitano’s nomination as President-elect Barack Obama’s Secretary for Homeland Security.

His reason for resigning is that he would no longer be working for Napolitano.

“I was hired by Napolitano and she’s the one I wanted to work for,” Borane said.

Borane’s resignation becomes effective Feb. 1, 2009.

Borane would not comment if he and Napolitano had any conversations regarding a future position within her new post.

“If sometime in the future she offers me a position, I’ll strongly consider it,’ Borane said.

Borane said that several staff members of the Governor’s Office have been offered positions within Homeland Security.

" I for one am happy that Ray Borane will not be taking the position with Napolitano. I really don't care much for either of them and don't feel that either helped improve the areas over which they presided. Ray really didn't do any good for our city and I'm glad that he's not the mayor anymore. "
