A McNeal man charged with killing his two neighbors and their dog pleaded not guilty Monday.

Darryl Howard Chenowth, 51, was arraigned Monday in Superior Court in Bisbee.

A pretrail was scheduled for May 8; his trial is set for June 22.

Chenowth was charged with two counts of second-degree murder and is being held at the Cochise County Jail in Bisbee on a $2 million bond.

Chenoweth shot and killed Thomas Rand, 44, of Bisbee, and Leonardo Rivera, 20, of McNeal.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday Chenowth was angry that the neighbor’s dog was in his yard at the 8000 block of Torn Road. He shot and killed the dog.

The dispute further escalated when the two neighbors, Rand and Rivera, told Chenowth that they were going to burn his house.

Rand and Rivera went onto Chenowth’s property, where they were about to allegedly assault him with “a piece of wood.”

Chenowth then shot and killed them.
