Retirees provide 150 years of service

The City of Douglas recently honored several retiring employees.


Mayor Michael Gomez and City Manager Curtis Shook congratulate retiring city employees. Pictured, from left, are Mayor Gomez, Shook, retirees Jose Noriega, Javier Fimbres, Richard Verdugo, Richard Elzy, and Councilman Louie Acedo. Not pictured is Pete Robles and Manuel Ortiz

Those retiring includes:

√ Pete Robles, Cemetery Supervisor- 9/1/1973-02/27/2009, 35 years of service.

√ Jose Noriega, Equipment Operator II-Public Works Dept. Streets Division-6/11/1974-2/27/2009, 34 years of service.

√ Manuel Ortiz, Utilities Superintendant, Public Works Dept.-9/24/1978-3/30/2009, 30 years of service.

√ Javier Fimbres, Water Technician IV, Public Works Dept., Utilities Water Field- 7/12/1982-3/30/2009 30 years of service.

√ Richard Verdugo, Cemetery Worker II – 3/30/1981-2/27/2009, 27 years of service.

√ Richard Elzy, Lead Fire Engineer- 11/5/1986-2/27/2009, 22 years of service.

The retirees worked for Public Works, Community Development, and Fire Department. 

Best wishes were bestowed in a ceremony that included fellow co-workers. 

City Manager Curtis Shook and Mayor Michael Gomez thanked the retirees for their many years of public service.  City Manager Curtis Shook informed the retirees they had a combined total of more than 150 years of service to the city.
