PAGE - The eighth seeded Douglas Lady Bulldogs saw their season come to an end Friday with a 74-27 loss to No. 1 Page in the second round of the 4A Division II state basketball playoffs.

Georgina Monslavo led Douglas in scoring with 12 points. Erika Tapia and Stephanie Zing each had six

Tied 4-4 early in the game, Page went on a 13-3 run taking a 17-7 lead heading into the second quarter.

Page, led by their 6’2 senior TJ Manson, outscored Douglas 17-7 in the second quarter taking a 34-14 lead at the half.

The Lady Bulldogs were plagued by 15 turnovers in the first half.

The third quarter was “raining three’s” for Page who hit six three-pointers as the Sand Devils used a 26-5 run to take a 60-19 lead into the fourth quarter.

Manson finished with 18 points on the night to lead Page.

Douglas' coach Clint Hill said afterwards Page was a real good team and they had some good outside shooters that burned the Douglas defense for 10 three-pointers.

The coach said the Sand Devils, comprised mostly of Native Americans, ran the ball a lot.

Coach Hill said the Page gymnasium was also packed with a standing room only crowd. He estimated over 2,000 people were in attendance.

"When they play everybody comes out," he said. "They have good community support."

Coach Hill said his team drew praise from the Page coaches and administrators for their aggressive and never quite attitude.

"They invited us back for their tournament in December," he said.

The coach said he was pleased his girls hustled till the very end despite being down by 30 plus points.

"I think this was a good experience for the girls," he said.

Page will now face No. 5 seed Mingus who on Friday  upset four seed and Gila Region champion Palo Verde 49-47, in the state semifinals.

Raymond Kellis topped Perry 69-65 in the other game and No. 7 Flagstaff upset No. 2 Seton Catholic 66-64.

Kellis and Flagstaff will meet in the other semifinal game.

Looking back on the season coach Hill said his team gave it a good run and the girls have a lot to be proud of.

"We're only losing three players," he said. "We have a good nucleus coming back next year."

Hill said he would like to thank his assistant coaches for all their hard work this past season and the community for its support.

"It was a fun ride," he said.

The Lady Bulldogs finish the year 15-10.

" Great job by Coach Hill and his staff. Also, Tony Vasquez, Tony Rodriguez, and Poncho Acosta should take a bow for starting this nucleus of girls out early. This shows what a good program early in the girls career will do for them and the TEAM. I hope Coach Hill stays for many years and teams like the Sol continues to compete in the summer tournaments. Keep up the goo work. "
