Cochise College coach Steve Lane said after the game if there was a “bright spot” to the loss it was the fact the Lady Apaches held Central Arizona 21 points below its average.
“I was real pleased with our defensive effort tonight,” he said. “We had a couple of letdowns tonight that hurt but other than that I thought we gave it a good effort.”
Florez left the game in the second half after banging her head on the floor after going up for a layup and getting fouled.
“When she was going up she got her legs knocked out from under her and when she came down on the floor she hit her head,” the coach said. “When she got up she was wobbling and throwing up … so she was taken to the hospital.”
Lane said Florez’ loss was a set back for his team.
“We started the second half turning the ball over four times in a row,” he said. “You can’t do that against this team.”
The Lady Apaches, 7-21 overall, 5-13 in league play, will end their season this week with a home game Tuesday against Arizona Western and a road game Friday at Phoenix College.
Tuesday will be sophomore night for the Cochise College sophomores.
Lane said all he’s asking is for his girls to play hard.
“Defense will create offense for you if you just play hard,” he said. “That’s what happened tonight – we played hard and had opportunities unfortunately we didn’t capitalize.”
