Hog Wildfire expands to 16,000 acres northeast of Douglas

The Hog Wildfire continues to burn about 35 miles northeast of Douglas in Hog Canyon in the Peloncillo Mountains.


Fire continues to burn in the Peloncillo Mountains.

The fire’s area has growth to approximately 16,000 acres and is 15 percent contained.

The fire is expected to be contained by Friday, March 13.

Currently, there are about 250, including 8 crews of firefighters  trying to contain the fire. Included in the effort is 12 fire engines, one bulldozer, a helicopter and three water tenders.

The fire is burning in grass, oak and juniper in steep terrain with heavy fuel loading.  Low to moderate fire behavior continues.  The fire is active in grass on west side of fire. 

No movement north and east sides of fire.

There are no structures at risk.

It is suspected that the fire is human caused, and is currently under investigation.
