Douglas Unified School District Superintendent Earl Pettit's status as superintendent will be addressed, according to information in the March 10 school board agenda.

The board called a special meeting last week during its regular meeting, specifically to discuss the situation concerning English Language Learner students removed from the program at Stevenson. The meeting is scheduled to start at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at Stevenson School.

According to the agenda, the board is scheduled, in executive session, to discuss the reassignment of Pettit, pending completion of the investigation by the Department of Education and Auditor General; and if reassigned to home, appointment of an interim assistant superintendent pending completion of investigation buy the Department of Education and Auditor General.

The Auditor General and Department of Education is conducting an investigation into the Stevenson ELL program. No mention of Pettit's name was made in the initial documentation, so it is unclear if this is related to the ELL problem or another situation.

Prior to that item on the agenda, Pettit is to give administrative reports on the English Language Development situation at Stevenson, the status of investigation by the Department of Education, Auditor General and DUSD; and the status of Stevenson Principal Rafael Ortiz.

The meeting will also act as an open forum for parents and staff to gather information.

The board and Petit have had a rocky relationship in his seven months in the district. His status was scheduled to be addressed at the December meeting, just prior to the new board members being sworn in, but there was not a quorum present.
