U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers have beefed up security measures in Douglas which have resulted in a flurry of seizures and arrests as well as other enforcement actions.

Between February 19 and February 22, CBP Officers have intercepted 7 smuggling attempts which have yielded more than 600 pounds of marijuana with a street value of more than $980,000.

During this same time frame CBP Officers have applied other enforcements which resulted in 9 arrests for fraud theft as well 64 Agriculture enforcements.

“It is no secret that violence south of the border is on the rise”, said Assistant Port Director Margaret Baldenegro, Director of Special Operations at the Douglas Port of Entry “but CBP remains steadfast in it’s commitment to keep our borders safe.

“With beefed up enforcement measures coupled with technology, layered enforcement, and partnerships which spans both sides of the border CBP continues to prepare to meet all threats. The enforcements achieved in these past few days are a direct result of our continued vigilance and our commitment to protect our nation’s borders”.

CBP Officers seized all vehicles and marijuana. All individuals that were involved in the marijuana smuggling attempts as well as the Identity Theft were turned over to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.
