Douglas City Hall Press Release

Published/Last Modified on Thursday, March 12, 2009 4:47 PM MDT

Spring cleaning projects are well underway throughout the city.  These efforts  not only include the city’s efforts on cleaning up debri and trash from the alleys but residents preparing their residences for spring and summer outdoor activities.

In an effort to facilitate this clean-up, the City of Douglas and Cochise County is scheduling a FREE DUMP DAY for Saturday, March 28, 2009, from 7:30 to 3:00 at the Douglas Transfer Station located on 90 W. 9th Street.

As a reminder, as outlined in Section 8 Title 8.16 of the Douglas Municipal Code and as a way to demonstrate our community’s pride and social responsibility we as citizens need to keep our neighborhoods clean.  This includes keeping the public right-of-way clean in front or adjacent to our property as well as maintaining the alleyways behind our property and ensuring these areas are free of weeds and litter.

In addition, we need to secure our garbage containers with lids to minimize the amount of litter that is scattered by unattended cats and dogs.

If you have any questions or require any additional information as it pertains to Code Enforcement please contact the Community Development Department at 417-7310 and the Public Works Department at 417-7329.

" I have also noticed that the city crew makes more of a mess when they pick up my trash and some falls out and they leave it on the ground... shouldn't the city employees have more pride in their jobs... being that they at least have a job in tough times... Start with them and then teach the community. "

" A FREE dup day! WHAT A JOKE!! What the City need to do is give a free pass to every residency in town that pays property taxes or pays water/garbage (since the transfer station is own by the county) to be used within a block of days ie 30 days or 2 weeks etc. that way you don't have to be in line for 2-3 hrs on "free dump day" when you could be doing some cleaning!! "

" I had lids on my cans and after the trash was picked up, the lids were missing or damaged because the crews did not replace them onto the cans. I am not going to keep buying lids so that city crews can keep destroying them. "
