More than 90 people fanned out all over the city to pick up trash and make the city cleaner.

The event is designed to be a community cleanup of alleys, rights-of-way and other locations.

The program is meant to provide a “spring cleaning” for the community, teach children about the importance of keeping their surroundings clean and have a little fun along the way.

Make a Difference Day started at f at 8 a.m. Saturday with the community cleanup.

Each participant received a commemorative t-shirt; bottle of water and visor along with a free lunch after the cleanup is completed.

The lunch will include hot dogs, macaroni salad, chips, soda and a cold treat.

Volunteering paid off for Holly Berryhill of Jones Real Estate.

“We learned that trash picking pays.  We found $52  and  the manager of the Dollar store was so grateful to have the vacant lot cleaned that he sent tswo bags of goodies for the kids.  When we finished cleaning we took the kids to McDonalds with our $52 findings.  After eating the kids reminded each other to throw their trash in the garbage can.  It was a wonderful learning experience for them,” Berryhill said.
