New football coach resigns

Less than two months after being named the new head football coach at Douglas High School Trevor Highfield unexpectedly resigned late Monday due to “extenuating circumstances”.

Douglas’ Athletic Director Randy Walker said Tuesday the head coaching position is once again open and basically “we start all over.”

Walker refused to say this was a step back for the program and added everything happens for a reason.

“If we can find us a coach by mid-May we should be in good shape,” he said. “It’s unfortunate this happened but we have to move on. … Maybe it just wasn’t meant to be.”

Attempts to reach Highfield were unsuccessful. Look for updates throughout the week on our website at www.douglasdispatch.com.
