PREAMBLE

Whereas it is essential, if man is not to be compelled to have recourse, as a last resort, to rebellion against tyranny and oppression, that human rights should be protected by the rule of law,
Whereas it is essential to promote the development of friendly relations between nations,
Whereas the peoples of the United Nations have in the Charter reaffirmed their faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person and in the equal rights of men and women and have determined to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom,
Whereas Member States have pledged themselves to achieve, in co-operation with the United Nations, the promotion of universal respect for and observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms,
Whereas a common understanding of these rights and freedoms is of the greatest importance for the full realization of this pledge,

3. The Koran says: The unbelievers are your inveterate enemy. (4:101). The Koran also says: that unbelievers are the “vilest of all creatures” (98:6). and “the worst of animals” *:55). What hope is there of coexistence when Allah requires Muslims to have this attitude towards non-Muslims?
4. A fundamental principle of Christianity and Judaism is the “Golden Rule” which says “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Yet, the Koran says: “Mohammed is God’s apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another.”(48:29). With this attitude, how can followers of Mohammed possibly coexist with non-Muslims?
5. In Christianity and Judaism, we have the commandment: “Thou shalt not kill” or “Thou shalt not murder.” This commandment is not restricted to Christians or Jews> By contrast the Koran says: “It is unlawful for a believer to kill another believer, accidents excepted.” (4:92) Also Mohammed said: “No Muslim should be killed for killing a Kafir” (infidel). (Budhari Vol. 9:50) If Islamic law considers the life of a Muslim to be worth more than the life of a non-Muslim, how can we reconcile Islam with our notion of equality before the law?
6. The Koran says: “Believers, take neither the Jews nor the Christians for your friends.” (5:51). How can non-Muslims trust Muslims when we know the Koran prevents Muslims from being friends with us?
7. The Koran says: “Make war on them until idolatry shall cease and God’s religion shall reign supreme.” (8:40) Doesn’t the word “until” make this sound like an open-ended declaration of permanent war until Islam conquers the world?”
8. In at least three places, the Koran requires retaliation:
-- “Believers, retaliation is decreed for you in bloodshed: a free man for a free man, a slave for a slave, and a female for a female." (2:178)
-- “Let evil be rewarded with evil." (42:41)
-- “If anyone attacks you, attack him as he attacked you." (2:194)
How can these words of Allah be reconciled with the norms of civilized society? ____________________________________________________________________________________
9. The Koran says: “Men have authority over women because God has made the one superior to the other; Good women are obedient. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them, forsake them in beds apart, and beat them. � (4:34). How can this possibly be reconciled with our notions of gender equality?
10. The Koran: in many places; says that Muslims must obey Mohammed and follow his example. Mohammed said: “You (i.e. Muslims) will fight with the Jews till some of them will hide behind stones. The stones well (betray them) saying, ‘O’Abdullah (i.e. slave of Allah! There is a Jew hiding behind me; so kill him.’ “Sahih Bukhari [4:52:176]) This has become part of the Hamas Charter. In view of this, how is it possible for the believing Muslims to accept Jews as equals or for Muslims ever to accept the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state in any borders?
11. Mohammed said: “Whoever changes his Islamic religion, kill him.” (Bukhari Vol. 9:57) How can this be reconciled with our notion of freedom of religion and freedom of conscience?
12. Mohammed said: “I have been ordered to fight with the people till they say, “None has the right to be worshipped but Allah’, his life and property will be saved by me.” (otherwise it will not).(Bukhari Vol. 4:196). When Muslims follow the example of Mohammed, how can they effuse t fight non-Muslims, kill them and take their property?
