Officers found 100 rounds of ammunition and a high-capacity magazine manufactured for a semi-auto handgun that the woman and her husband were allegedly trying to smuggle into Mexico. The agency said the woman tried to conceal the items in her purse.
Officers seized the items, and the woman was turned over to ICE.
On Wednesday, officers at the Douglas Port of Entry stopped two drug-smuggling attempts.
At about 3 p.m., officers arrested a man, 19, from Clovis, N.M. With the help of a K-9 team, officers found more than 100 pounds marijuana “tightly pressed in metal boxes concealed in the gas tank” of a vehicle, according to Customs and Border Protection.
About 15 minutes later, a CBP special operations team selected a man, 30, from Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, for further inspection. Officers found a “deep compartment in the heater core of the vehicle” that contacted several packages of cocaine that weighed nearly 10 pounds.
The agency estimates the value of the seized drugs at more than $470,000.
Officers seized the vehicles and the drugs, and both men were turned over to ICE.
