A series of neighborhood meetings in the individual City of Douglas council wards will begin this Tuesday, March 31.

The first meeting will be held in Douglas Councilwoman  Margaret Morales’ precinct, Ward 1, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Douglas Recreation Center, 1919 3rd Street.

The city will provide refreshments.

“We are developing a Neighbor Partnership Program designed to promote feedback between citizens, local governments officials and city employees,” said City Manger Curtis Shook

He said the mission of the program is to:

Establish and maintain an effective Neighborhood Partnership Program.

Identification of neighborhood needs and solutions – it is a forum for citizens to tell us what is on their minds “It is our job to listen,” Shook said.

Establish a partnership between the city, its neighborhoods and the business community.

Arrange meetings between neighborhood groups and city officials and staff for problem solving/issue resolution.

Shook said it is hoped that this type of program will provide better communication between the city and neighborhoods and also provide a city with a “real feel” for the needs and wants of the city’s citizens.

The city will also be asking citizens fill out a Neighborhood Partnership questionnaire which would ask for priorities in problem areas, areas of improvement, neighborhood conditions and other general information.

These meetings will be held approximately every two weeks until all six wards have been completed.
